The Bards of Sweeney Bring The Craic: Their First Original Single

Tours, France’s The Bards of Sweeney have spent five years and 250-plus gigs belting out Irish trad and Pogues covers across France, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany. Now they’ve written their own: “The Craic”, the band’s first original single, is out now.

“The Craic” is a rolling, sea-salted booze-up about lager, ale, whisky, cider, mermaids and a session so wild it’s “Blessed by Saint MacGowan”. Banjo, fiddle, accordion and bodhrán do the heavy lifting. It was recorded at Studio la Perrée in Mettray and Studio 404 in Blois.

The video, directed by Timmy Maquaire, was shot on the Loire at Rochecorbon with the traditional boatmen of La Rabouilleuse, Irish dancers from ChoreÔceltic and fire-breather Fabien Gantner.

Folkier than your average Celtic punk racket, sure, but this lot have opened for Sir Reg, Celkilt and Sons of O’Flaherty. Get the pints in.
