The clocks haven’t gone back yet, but the Hub’s Celtic punk and Irish rock crews are already lining up the autumn sessions, from State Street to Southie to the Cape. Here’s what’s on the Greater Boston radar from mid-October through the holidays. Pace yourselves.
The Gobshites, “the only folk ’n’ Irish band that matters” by their own modest reckoning, park themselves at The Black Rose on State Street for back-to-back nights, Wednesday, October 21 and Thursday, October 22 (8pm). After a weekend at Roger’s Pub in Rockaway Beach, NY (November 13 and 14), they’re back at the Rose for Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 25, then sleep off the turkey at The Tinker’s Son in Norwell on Friday, November 27. The Cambridge Classic 5K follows on December 6, and Boland’s in Worcester on January 16. Full dates at thegobshites.com.
New Bedford’s Whaling City wreckers The Pourmen head down the Cape on Thursday, October 22, as special guests of Haggis X-1, the Celtic rock outfit built around Enter the Haggis veterans Craig Downie, Trevor Lewington and Tom Barraco, at Neptune’s, 541 Main St, Hyannis. Doors 6pm, music 7pm. Out since February, this year’s St. Paddy’s Double Shot 2026, cut at Anchorend Studios with a bonus track, is on Bandcamp.
Accordion-and-chicken-pickin’ merchants Kier Byrnes & The Kettle Burners bring the oompah to Castle Island Brewing’s Oktoberfest in Southie on Saturday, October 17 (band 1–5pm). Then it’s the Medford School of Rock showcase on October 30, Vincent’s in Worcester on November 6 and the Lowell Americana Fest at The Warp and Weft on November 21. They’re up for Americana Act of the Year at the New England Music Awards: public voting closes this Friday, October 9, and winners are crowned November 15 at Six String Grill in Foxboro. After that, the Jingle Bell Run after-party at The Burren on December 13 and New Year’s Eve at The Jungle in Somerville. More at kierbyrnes.com.
Also in the diary: the Scollay Square Skiffle Band’s Sunday Hootenanny at the Canadian-American Club in Watertown on October 25.
