The clocks have gone back, Thanksgiving is on the horizon and New England has plenty to fill the long dark evenings: a new record from one of the Dropkick Murphys’ favourite troubadours, a Street Dog paying his respects to a hardcore legend, and a turkey-week pub crawl on State Street. Here’s your fortnightly New England round-up.
Jesse Ahern puts out his new album Peace Love & Revolution this Friday, November 6. It’s produced by Elio DeLuca and it’s the Boston rabble-rouser’s first full record since he pulled the music he controls off the big streaming services. You’ll find it on Qobuz, Subvert and his own website instead, and he’s promising a tour to go with it. His site bills it as “an album written for workers.” No surprises there.
Street Dogs frontman Mike McColgan turns up on “What This Means (For Lou)”, out since October 23 on Dead Serious Recordings. It’s Pennsylvania hardcore crew Wisdom In Chains’ tribute to the late Sick Of It All singer Lou Koller, credited to Wisdom In Chains, Street Dogs and Michael McColgan and the Bombsquad, and Agnostic Front’s Vinnie Stigma yells the intro. The Dogs’ Paradise homecoming on December 18 is still on.
New Bedford’s The Pourmen take over The Black Rose on State Street for Thanksgiving weekend: Friday, November 27 and Saturday, November 28 (9pm, 21+). That’s the late shift after The Gobshites’ Thanksgiving Eve session at the same bar on the 25th. Leftovers optional, stamina essential.
Providence shanty crew Sharks Come Cruisin’ close out the New Bedford Whaling Museum’s 2026 First Fridays series on Friday, December 4. The sing-along runs from 6:30 to 8pm (doors 5pm; $25, members $12.50), the lyrics go up on flip charts and audience participation is “encouraged throughout.” Haul away.
