Ireland has a new punk-folk gang, and they’re buying the first round. Klover, an all-female four-piece, put out their debut single “Pour Me a Drink” on October 30: a raucous, whistle-and-fiddle shout-along built to be played loud.
The line-up mixes trad chops with a bit of everything else. Sisters Anna Stevens (flute, whistle, guitar) and Norah Stevens (fiddle) grew up playing their dad’s songs. Brinda Irani brings a big voice, live looping and a background running from opera to jazz, and Dublin songwriter Saibh brings the pop swagger and the edge.
“This is not pop. This is punk folk,” say the band, and Hot Press has already put it on its list of new Irish songs to hear. Pour one, turn it up, and keep an eye on these four.
