Not a tin whistle in sight, but sometimes you need a sunshine break from the pints and pogo. Oakland, California’s The Goods dropped Goodbye Summertime on September 16th via Dandy Boy Records, less than a year after debut Don’t Spoil the Fun.

Songwriter Rob Good produced it almost entirely in his own Oakland studio, piling Beatles-y psychedelia, Brian Wilson-ish balladry, jangling folk rock and crunchy power pop into fourteen hook-stuffed tracks. Longtime pals Cherron Arens, Yea-Ming Chen and Ian McBrayer chip in; Bart Thurber mixed and mastered. Start with “Summer’s Almost Gone,” “Minor Key” and “Wing.”

“There’s some pain in there, but there’s a lot of joy as well,” says Good. “It’s about persisting through difficult times and finding a way to carry on.” Fans of Teenage Fanclub and The Raspberries, form an orderly queue. The band is on the road in Europe this autumn, too.
