Check these guys out - The Pug Mahones - they are a Celtic/Pirate punk band straight out of South Buffalo, NY featuring Mike Jordan. Mike was vocalist with Jackdaw through 2004 and in my squinty vision of the world Jackdaw lost a lot of their edge after he left.
Just noticed a status update on myspace (see myspace isn't totally dead) from one of my favorite bands
- The Peelers - who have been on hiatus for a while. Look like the band is gearing up to play some shows south of the border (that being the US/Canada border) and will be debuting material from their next album - no news on where they stand in the recording process or if they have even set foot inside the studio yet.
Seems Shane-o has and new band and is playing gigs in and around Dublin and other bits of Ireland. No news on anything being recorded (it's been 13 years since Crock of Gold so don't hold your breath)
The new band consists of:
- Joey Cashman (Fast Skirts, Tokyo Olympics) - whistle, - John "Sarge" O'Hara (DC9,Tokyo Olympics) - keys, - Jack Dublin (In Tua Nua, Gravediggers) - bass - Paul Byrne (In Tua Nua, Gravediggers) - drums
DKM head to Australia and New Zealand in December to not only avoid the cold New England winter but to play the No Sleep Till.....serious for festivals.
Other bands playing include: Megadeth, NOFX, Parkway Drive, GWAR, Alkaline Trio, Frenzal Rhomb, August Burns Red, Suicide Silence, Katatonia, 3 Inches of Blood, We Came as Romans, Antagonist AD, Leeches, Outsiders & Shitripper......heres to GWAR taking a chainsaw to Dave Mustaine.
The Street Dogs the Boston street punk band (though I think they are based in L.A. their soul is firmly planted on Dot Ave) release their 5th CD on August 31st. The band features former Dropkick Murphys singer Mike McColgan and the self titled release is produced by former Murphys six stringer Rick Barton.

Continental is the new band from Rick Barton (a founding member of the Dropkick Murphys and one of their main song writers on the 1st couple of releases). They recently played in Boston with The Mahones and they are frigging A-OK! If you like classy street punk in the vein of DKMs Do or Die then check 'em out. They are on the up coming Street Dogs / Flatfoot 56 tour.

irishrock.org is a really good resource if you're interested in Irish punk and rock from the 70s and especially the 80s - but after reading the bio of Black 47s, Larry Kirwan, I'm left wondering what the hell did poor Larry do to the irishrock.org scribe 'cos boy did he ever do some hit job on poor ol' Larry. Maybe he is a relative of the infamous Bridie from Funky Ceili?
“Tommy McDonagh, the head of a London crime family, is hiding a forbidden truth. He has been living a lie. One that could threaten everything he has worked for - maybe even his life. Meet the McDonaghs! Meet the Clan London”
Andy Nolan, better know round these parts as the accordion play in the BibleCodeSundays has recently written a screen play about a London-Irish crime family. The great news is that the screen play has been picked up to be made into a movie and preproduction is already underway. The movie will feature an appearance by London bad boy – Noel 'Razor' Smith – so it’s going to be dripping in authenticity. I’m hoping for a cross between my favorite two gangster movies – “State of Grace” and “The Long Good Friday” and the soundtrack is of course going to be fantastic. Check up on the movie progress on Facebook and look out for casting calls for parts (though I guess it will help if you have muggsy Irish faces).
